P.S. Kuyalnitsky estuary (ukr. Kuyalnitsky estuary; until 1917 Andreevsky estuary) is an estuary 3 km northwest of the coast of the Odessa Bay of the Black Sea, 8 km from the center of Odessa. The area of the estuary is 56–60 km², the length is 28 km, and the maximum width is 3 km. The average depth is about 1 m. It is separated from the sea by a sandy barrier up to 3 km wide. The salinity of the water is currently over 300 ppm. The river Bolshoy Kuyalnik flows into the estuary. The lowest point of Ukraine is located in the Kuyalnitsky Estuary area: minus 5 meters from sea level.
The name, according to some researchers, is associated with a high concentration of salt in the water of the estuary and comes from the Turkic word "kuyanlyk" (thick).
